What We Do
When a child or adolescent is seen in psychotherapy, parent participation is required as intervention is focused on promoting the mutual satisfaction of parent-child communication, problem solving and emotional sharing. This involvement could involve either/or parent-child counseling sessions or parent education and support sessions. For parents of younger children, parents and children will usually be seen together in the playroom. Each parent-child session will be focused on the processes and successful resolution of current areas of conflict, confusion, disappointment or disconnect that disrupt feelings of healthy attachment and communication.
All interventions used are person-problem specific. Each patient participates in an individualized strength-based Intake assessment with the goal of identifying both the nature and dimensions of the problems for which they are seeking psychological help as well as for determining the most appropriate intervention strategies, consistent with the patient’s goals and personality style. Following the Intake assessment, treatment recommendations are made and a course of care is mutually negotiated.
